About Dermal Filler Injections

As we age, our skin loses collagen and elastin, and our bones, muscles, and fat slowly deplete. These changes are reflected in our face, and each of those elements work together to shape our face, such that a change in one element will affect another.

Overtime, our skin will slowly lose the support it needs from these elements, resulting in lost volume, sagging, folds, formation of lines, and wrinkles. Dermal fillers are clear gel particles made of hyaluronic acid, which is naturally occurring in the body and attracts water to the area, making your skin feel more hydrated.

Dermal fillers are a great way to restore and enhance facial volume to make you look more, rested, fresher, and more youthful.

Treatments available for:

  • Lips
  • Cheek enhancement/volumizing
  • Chin contouring
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Marionette lines
  • Jawline enhancement
How does it work?

Dermal filler treatments are non-surgical procedures in which hyaluronic acid in the form of gel-like particles are injected strategically under the skin to lift the tissue using either a blunt cannula or needle. This results in folds being softened, fine lines smoothing out, lost volume being restored to create a non-surgical lift (eg. cheeks, jowls), as well as enhancing definition and contouring to create a more refined and fresher appearance.

What happens during your treatment?

Our trained medical professionals such as our Cosmetic Physician and Registered Nurse will begin by asking you what your concerns are, as well as your medical history to ensure patient safety. Your areas of concern and facial assessment will then be thoroughly assessed, and we will recommend you the safest and most effective way to make you look refreshed. Treatment areas are then cleaned, and areas of concern and ‘risky’ areas are then marked out to ensure optimal and safe results. A needle or blunt cannula is then used to administer the hyaluronic acid filler underneath the skin to restore volume or enhance facial features.

What results should I expect?

Results are instant with dermal fillers, and you should expect your treatment sites to have more volume and appear more lifted and defined. Swelling is observed the most the first 3 days, which will then gradually reduce over the next 2 weeks.

How long do results last?

Dermal fillers usually last around 12-18 months, however, individual results vary depending on age, lifestyle, filler used, and area and amount injected. Maintenance treatments should be performed yearly to maintain results as dermal fillers are not permanent as they are naturally metabolized by your body overtime.

What are the side effects and complications?

Potential bruising can occur, as well as swelling and tenderness mainly in the first 2-3 days after treatment. A very rare complication is vascular occlusion where filler is injected into an artery or vein and stops blood flow. This can lead to tissue necrosis, stroke, and blindness, however, once again, this is very rare and, in the case, that this does happen, it will be well-managed by our trained medical staff. Other rare complications include infection, allergic reactions, and granulomas.

How many treatments will I need?

Treatments needed depends on individual factors such as age, lifestyle, filler used, as well as desired outcomes. Multiple treatments may be needed to restore volume or enhance features to a desired result, however, maintenance treatments are required every 6 to 24 months to maintain results.

What areas can be treated?
  • Cheeks (enhancing and volumizing)
  • Lips
  • Chin
  • Jawline enhancement
  • Marionettes
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Preauricular (sunken cheeks)

What post-care instructions are involved?

It is advised to avoid any heat-inducing activities and rigorous exercise for at least 2 days after treatment. Avoid any pressure on the treated area for at least 48hours after the procedure, and avoid any other dermal treatments for 2 weeks. Do not apply any make-up for 24 hours and avoid touching the treatment site for the next few hours to reduce infection risk. Active skincare (Vitamin A, Vitamin C, acids etc) is also essential to enhance skin quality and condition.
